About Us

Lakeshore Public Media has remained a mission-driven nonprofit public broadcasting organization committed to providing high-quality programming across television and radio that promotes life-long learning, celebrates human diversity, and engages in civic concerns. We strive to enrich the lives of Northwest Indiana residents, regardless of an individual’s social or economic status, by keeping our audiences connected to their local community as well as the world through trusted programming that not only keeps them informed, but also exposes them to the worlds of music, history, culture, art and more.

Lakeshore PBS first signed on the air in November 1987 as WYIN Channel 56. Today, nearly 35 years later, we remain the sole televised source for local news, culture, arts, public affairs and more. Lakeshore Public Radio 89.1FM first hit the airwaves across Northwest Indiana in January 2009. The station recently expanded its over-the-air signal to make the broadcast available to more Northwest Indiana residents than ever before.

Our locally-produced programming has been recognized by some of the most prestigious organizations in broadcasting and been awarded accolades including an Emmy, numerous Telly awards, Communicator Awards, Cardinal Awards, and more.
